Study

Dear students,

as academic coordinator of the EGZB (Evangelisches Geriatriezentrum Berlin) and the geriatrics department at Charité Campus Benjamin Franklin, I am happy to welcome you to our homepage. Geriatric medicine, also called the medicine of ageing, includes internal, orthopaedic, neurologic and psychiatric diseases as well as diseases of general medicine and thus goes beyond pure medical treatment. A close cooperation between the particular professional groups (medical and nursing staff, physiotherapists as well as occupational and speech therapists, neuropsychologists, nutritionists, social service, and spiritual welfare) and family members as well as outpatient clinicians enables the students to gain a good inside view into the medical treatment of older patients. We are represented in different modules of the model study program. Profound teaching is of great importance for us and would be happy to receive your personal feedback including questions, criticisms and suggestions.

With warm and collegial regards

Practical year

Students are encouraged to experience the treatment of their own patients as preparation for their future profession. Most of the time there are students for taking blood samples in the EGZB which makes it possible to involve them into the whole daily routine as a part of the team and helps us improve our role as teaching staff. In order to complete the internal first third of the practical year in the EGZB the Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum has to be chosen. Regarding the distribution of all places the EGZB has to be chosen directly (also for external students).

Clinical traineeship

During a clinical traineeship the students gain first impressions of treating patients. A clinical traineeship in geriatrics makes sense if you have already completed at least one general clinical traineeship. Previous experience facilitates the access to the subject and treatment during the clinical traineeship which usually lasts 30 days. If you are interested to do a clinical traineeship in the EGZB please contact as at lehre[at]egzb.de
