Study and Teaching of Geriatrics at the Charité
The teaching of geriatrics at the Charité is carried out in various modules of a model course of study. Geriatrics, also known as geriatric medicine, comprises diseases from internal medicine, orthopedics, neurology and psychiatry as well as general medicine. It also goes beyond pure organ medicine. Through the close cooperation of individual professional groups (e.g. medical staff, nursing staff, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, speech therapists, neuropsychologists, etc.) students gain a good overview of the care of elderly patients. However, relatives and outpatient providers also play an important role.

Practical year
Under supervision, students should learn how to care for their own patients as a preparation for their future work.
A PJ-tertial (within the framework of internal medicine) can be taken at the Clinic for Geriatrics and Geriatric Medicine at the CBF as well as at the Protestant Geriatric Centre Berlin.
At the Clinic for Geriatrics and Geriatric Medicine at CBF, students have the opportunity to get to know geriatrics in a university environment and to deal with complex, internal disease patterns. Every PJ student receives free meals in the canteen during his/her work in geriatrics.
At the EGZB there are blood withdrawal students most of the time. This allows the teaching assignment to be implemented very well, as the students experience the complete daily routine as members of the team.
In order to be able to complete the inner-medical tertial at the Clinic for Geriatrics and Geriatric Medicine at the CBF, the Charité Campus Benjamin Franklin should be indicated as a wish.
In order to be able to complete the inner-medical-tertial at the EGZB, the Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum should be indicated as a wish. For the distribution of places on site, the EGZB can then be directly marked as the wish (also applies to external students).
Clinical traineeship
By completing an elective clinical traineeship, students become familiar with the medical care of patients. The clinical traineeship in the geriatric department makes sense especially if at least one clinical traineeship has already been completed. With previous experience, a quick and easy introduction to the topic and care is possible. We would like a 30-day clinical traineeship. A clinical traineeship in the day clinic at the EGZB is considered an outpatient clinical traineeship.
