VERNA - Project profile

Motivation

Our western diet is known to be associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, lipid disorders, metabolic syndrome and tumor disease. There is solid evidence that the western diet increases the incidence of inflammation and accelerates aging.

Aims and Procedures

This randomized, controlled intervention study in cross-over design will investigate the potential effects of a short-term vegan and protein-rich diet compared to an omnivorous diet on metabolic and inflammatory parameters in healthy, older adults (65-80 years old).
