Probably 3 million people with dementia will be living in Germany in 2050. Smart health systems can help to improve life with dementia, one of the most serious and care-intensive diseases in old age. Although there are already some systems on the market that have been created specifically for this area of application, there is still an urgent need for research and development in the care sector.
Aims and Procedures
The aim of the project is to develop a user-centered assistance system to support people with dementia in acute situations and to prevent them from becoming ill. Small sensors placed in residents’ clothing respectively in the bed of immobile care recipients are used to record and recognize movement data of the resident. Data are transmitted to a mobile device (cell phone/tablet) and displayed via app. The innovation addresses three areas that play an important role in the treatment of care recipients:
- Fall detection with emergency call, fall prediction
- Decubitus prophylaxis through mobility monitoring
