Motivation

Chronic myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy are cardiac pathologies, which are associated with severe myocardial dysfunction. Furthermore, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction are associated with aging. It is not known, whether aging and/or sex influences these cardio-pathologies.

Aims and Procedure

We aim to investigate, the influence of aging and sex on chronic myocarditis or end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy. Furthermore, we aim to study whether cardiomyopathies may affect mitochondrial homeostasis and inflammation in the heart in an age- and/or sex-dependent manner.
