Age and gender differences in coronary heart disease - Project profile

Motivation

Cardiovascular diseases severely contribute to death and disability worldwide. Men have a higher prevalence of cardiovascular diseases. Sex plays a prominent role in the main risk factors of these diseases. In cardiovascular diseases, e.g. atherosclerosis, sex differences in inflammation have been demonstrated.

Aims and Procedure

The aim of this project is to investigate whether intrinsic sex has an influence on the age-related inflammatory mechanisms and mitochondrial dysfunction in human macrophages and endothelial cells as well as on the interaction between macrophages and endothelial cells.

Project duration

01/2018 – 12/2022
