General information on the Working group Immuno Aging
Aging is related with declined physiological function, leading to inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction, promoting development of cardiovascular diseases.
The immune system undergoes with increasing age senescence processes, promoting chronic inflammation, calls inflammaging. Inflammaging might contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction, which is related e. g. with the development of endothelial dysfunction. Inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction negatively influence cardiac aging in a sex-dependent manner. Our group aim to investigate sex differences in age-related alterations of mitochondrial function and mitochondrial biogenesis in relation to inflammation in cardiovascular diseases.
